Meet The New Emotions Of Inside Out 2!
2024 Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.
Set to release June 14th 2024, Inside Out 2 is the sequel to the popular 2015 movie. This next instalment sees new emotions entering the picture, and in this blog, we will go over what the plot involves and discuss each of the four new emotions.
What Is The Plot Of Inside 2?
Since the first film, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust have all been leading a successful operation. However, once Riley hits her teenage years, new additions to the emotional team cause problems. Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment, all bottle up the original emotions to take control. Now, it's up to them to get back before Anxiety and the others cause problems for Riley as she grows up. Learn more about these new emotions below!
Introducing Anxiety
The first to be revealed, Anxiety seems to be the leader of these new invasive emotions. It appears that Anxiety will also be an antagonist of sorts, calling the original emotions “suppressed emotions” and ordering the others to “bottle” them up. This new emotion is voiced by Maya Hawke, best known for her work in Stranger Things as Robin Buckley. We can't wait to see what she brings to the role!
Meet Embarrassment
This “big fella” looks extremely loveable and will probably be a definite fan favourite. He seems to prefer hiding away in his hoodie and is seen greeting Joy and the others in an awkward but relatable way. This is a feeling everyone has or will experience at some point, so will be the perfect addition to Riley's emotional roster as she goes through the ups and downs of her teenage years. Embarrassment is voiced by Paul Walter Hauser, who recently appeared in the new animated movie “Orion and the Dark”.

Whos Ennui? (And What Does It Mean?)
Confusing a few of the viewers and even some of the characters in the movie with its name, Ennui is just a fancy word for boredom, as explained begrudgingly by it in the trailer as they mindlessly scroll on their phone. Ennui is going to be used to highlight the teenage lack of interest in anything for Riley, touching on the boredom most teenagers nowadays have. They are voiced by French actress Adèle Exarchopoulos, who is sure to bring a unique voice to this new emotion.

Say Hello To Envy!
This adorable new addition is Envy. As envy is usually seen as a spiteful emotion, this unique take shows a more admiring portrayal. Little Envy seems to want Riley to be more cool like the other teenagers on the hockey team, as they can be seen taking control of the emotion board in the latest trailer. As can also be seen in the trailer, it seems Envy will have a dynamic with Disgust, complimenting her when they are first introduced. Envy will be voiced by Ayo Edebiri.

Will The Original Voice Cast Be Returning For Inside Out 2?
Unfortunately, not all of the original voice cast will be returning for the second film. Reprising their roles are Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness and Lewis Black as Anger. Sadly, Mindy Kaling (who originally voiced Disgust) and Bill Hader (who initially voiced Fear) won't be returning, instead being replaced by Liza Lapira and Tony Hail respectively. Whilst it is a shame Kaling and Hader won't be returning, we are sure their replacements will do an excellent job filling in for them.
